Lee Jong-Sun
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep and the moderating effect of resilience in the relationship between insomnia and suicidal behavior. A total of 305 participants in their 20s completed the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R), Dysfunctional Beliefs and Attitudes about Sleep Scale-16 (DBAS-16), Resilience Appraisal Scale (RAS), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 (GAD-7). The data were analyzed through Hayes¡¯ model 59 using SPSS. Results indicated that dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep fully mediated the relationship between insomnia and suicidal behavior, and resilience moderated the relationship. These findings suggest that interventions for suicide should focus on modification of dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep and improvement of resilience. Implications and limitations of this study are discussed.
